Peter NevilleProfessor Peter Neville is an animal behaviourist who has been in practice for the referral and treatment of behaviour problems in cats and dogs for over twenty-five years. He began his professional career as a Research Biologist for the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare in the fields of academic and practical animal welfare working around the world for several years before returning to the UK to work in pet behaviour therapy practice. He established the first pet behaviour referral clinic at a UK Veterinary School at the Dept of Veterinary Medicine, Bristol in 1990. He was a Clinical Professor in Animal Behaviour at the Dept of Veterinary Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Japan from 2008-11 and, after 5 years as a Visiting Scholar at The Ohio State University in the USA, was appointed Adjunct Full Professor in 2009 and now regularly teaches courses there.

Along with eminent veterinary behaviourist Dr Robert Falconer-Taylor BVetMed DipCABT MRCVS, Peter is a Partner in the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (, founded in 1993), the leading independent education provider in its field in the UK, South Africa and Poland. COAPE UK offers a wide range of nationally regulated distance learning courses and professional development programmes in companion animal behaviour to degree level, and pioneered the development and application of the EMRA™ and ESTA™ approaches to pet behaviour problem assessment and treatment.
Media Peter is a frequent media broadcaster and international speaker. Recent UK TV appearances have included three seasons on Channel 5 as the resident behaviour expert on the hugely popular 'Cats/Dogs/Puppies/Kittens/Birds/Wild Animals make you LOL' shows, which take a light hearted look at pet and wild animal behaviour film clips from the internet. The shows are repeated frequently on Channel 5 and the Comedy Channel and have been broadcast throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and on the in-flight entertainment programmes of many airlines!
Peter is also the author of the internationally best-selling books 'Do Cats Need Shrinks?' and 'Do Dogs Need Shrinks?' and author/co-author of 15 other books. The most recent (2015) is the acclaimed 'EMRA Intelligence: The revolutionary new approach to treating behaviour problems in dogs' by the partners of COAPE. Peter is also the author/co-author of various scientific papers, the producer/presenter of several DVDs/films on feline, lupine and canine behaviour, and writes every month in the leading UK pet magazines Dogs Today and Your Cat.

Peter is a UK organiser and often the resident behaviourist on bespoke African safaris run throughout southern Africa with top naturalist, writer and tour guide Andrew Rae of Rae Safaris, based in Johannesburg.
Peter lives in the beautiful medieval city of Salisbury, Wiltshire in the UK and has two grown up children, one studying for a Masters in equine behaviour and welfare in New Zealand, while the other runs his own very successful business as a theatrical make-up and cosplay artist. Being overseas so much, Peter has no pets of his own, but 'borrows' them from hosts and students wherever he stays!
